No School? That’s Cool!
This week, Life Launch held its first school holiday workshop of the school year. We kicked things with finances talking through savings, interest, and the credit. We even made a pit stop at the bank to practice our ATM skills. Then it was off to the grocery store, where kids used unit prices to find the most affordable ingredients for our lunch.
Back home, they cooked lunch entirely from scratch: pasta with homemade tomato sauce, roasted chicken, and roasted vegetables. This time around, we added a formal table setting, and each student cleared their plate and put it in the dishwasher without bring prompted.
The afternoon brought the most exciting part of the day - power tools & patching dry wall. Turns out kids love spackle!
We finished the day with a big laundry party, folding everyone’s loads together on the dining room table while listening to some tunes.
By the end of the day, they'd budgeted, banked, cooked, built, and cleaned up after themselves — proof that real-world skills can fit into one very full day off school.
